The Class and Outreach Coordinator (2022 VISTA Summer Associate) will play an important role in supporting homeowners of all income levels in maintaining safe, stable housing by conducting community outreach and market research to identify community needs, planning and executing homeowner workshops, and promoting courses and resources.

This is a full-time position that will run during the summer from June 6 to August 14, 2022.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be 18 years old or older.
  • Some college education and experience in community service is preferred.

Compensation:

  • $575.40 bi-weekly living allowance through AmeriCorps
  • VISTAs have the choice of an Education Award or End of Service Stipend, awarded at the end of service

Job duties:

CHWC is a nonprofit that builds high-quality homes for rent and purchase, provides alternative paths to homeownership, and supports families pursuing homeownership, financial stability, and other financial goals.

As our VISTA Summer Associate, you'll work as an integral part of our team to support the wellbeing, safety, and stability of families in our community. Your duties will include:

  • Working with community partners to plan workshops.
  • Designing curriculum for workshops.
  • Promoting workshops through canvassing, social media, and partnership networks.
  • Evaluating and adjusting workshops.
  • Attending community events to share CHWC programs with residents.
  • Supporting the development, assessment, and execution of the communication plan that guides CHWC's engagement with homeowners.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
CHWC needs a smart, self-starting Senior Housing Counselor with strong technical aptitude. This position will be primarily responsible for building, growing, and sustaining CHWC’s Homeownership program, which delivers HUD certified housing counseling and education services and financial assistance, to promote sustainable homeownership in the neighborhoods we serve. This position will deliver and oversee counseling, education, and homebuyer assistance programs, including home purchase and preservation assistance grants. This role will work closely with customers and external partners providing a high level of service in a professional manner and will ensure homeownership programs reflect CHW’s commitment for diversity, inclusion and equity. The position is considered non-exempt, full-time and benefits eligible.

COMPENSATION RANGE: $48,000 - $52,000 annually, Depending on Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HUD housing counseling certification or ability and willingness to obtain certification within 60 days of hiring
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline. Master’s preferred
  • A deep commitment to owning your work and leading the homeownership team
  • A desire to learn new skills and disciplines and to teach what you know
  • Comfort with uncertainty, experimentation, and adaptation in a constantly changing environment
  • Project management and organization skills. Experience managing projects/programs from start to finish
  • Decision-making and critical thinking skills
  • Desire to work as part of a diverse team and promote an equity and inclusive organizational culture.
  • Strong applicants will have a desire to learn and understand how the principles of inclusion, equity, and justice apply to CHWC’s work

  • More than one language preferred

 

Skills & Knowledge:

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible work in a field related to homeownership, including real estate sales and/ or mortgage lending
  • Mastery of personal finance best practices and principles
  • Expertise in the statutory and regulatory framework relevant to homeownership, including TILA/RESPA, GLB, Fair Housing and other federal, state, and local rules
  • Excellent education and one on one coaching skills
  • Familiarity and comfort with teaching adult learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and provide constructive feedback to direct reports as needed
  • Entrepreneurial business management skills; strong desire to grow CHWC’s Homeownership department to serve more families better, faster, and more profitably
  • Strong technology skills & aptitude: CHWC is moving toward an increasingly cloud based, paperless, mobile environment, so comfort with existing and emerging tech tools is critical.
  • Excellent written communication.
